Message From the YTN CEO
Global warming's dark shadows are spreading to the four corners of the earth.

Tuvalu, an island nation in the South Pacific Ocean, and the Maldives in the Indian Ocean are facing threats of complete inundation and many parts of the globe including the Korean penninsula are suffering from serious natural disasters.

Environmental problems including climate change are now being considered as direct factors threatening the well-being of humanity thus, the international society is working in cooperation to provide a common response.

Amongst the international efforts, the Conference of the Parties(COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change(UNFCCC) is the supreme authority of the Convention where 194 countries gather annually at the end of each year. The Conference of the Parties decide on legal and political measures needed for fulfillment of the treaty and evaluate the activities of each country.

Last year, Korea University and YTN co-hosted 'Model UN Climate Change Conference 2015' opened to high school and university students which was a success and received favorite response.

The Model UN Climate Change 2015 which will be held ahead of the 21th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties will be a great opportunity for students to acquire the qualities of a global leader. In addition, the Model UN Climate Change Conference 2015 will simulate the discussions of the Conference of the Parties and students will be offered the valuable experience to reaffirm the importance of the climate change issue and think about the possible future solutions.

Moreover, the Conference will be a forum for students who are interested in international affairs and meetings to learn about the complex system of international cooperation. After the Conference, students will have improved negotiation and public speaking skills and will have aquired broader perspective and knowledge on the world.

I look forward to your deep interest and participation at the Model UN Climate Change Conference 2015.

Thank you.

ytn CEO Junhee Jo

Message From the President of Korea University
Humankind in all regions has struggled to improve living standards. Consequently, the unprecedented impact of climate change has threatened the survival of people in many parts of the globe.

Last year, world leaders from the parties of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) met in Lima to find solution to the diverse impacts of climate change. Despite the fact that the conference concluded with adoption of the second commitment period of the Kyoto Protocol, only 15% of total greenhouse gas emissions from all regions will be covered by the commitment and work is still under way to reaffirm the work plan for the eight years between 2012 and 2020.

In this, Korea University and YTN have come together to make an appropriate response. Korea University and YTN have successfully co-hosted the Model UN Climate Change Conference since 2011 and this year. The conference will include 700 participants from middle schools, high schools and universities from in Korea and abroad who will rethink an adequate approach to solve the problem.

Korea University, and its division of International Studies, has great knowledge and experience in successfully hosting numerous Model UNs and Model G20s. Based on our vision, fostering dynamic global leaders and creating new knowledge, we will fully pool our wisdom to make you find the conference highly worthwhile.

Once again, I would like to express my heartfelt welcome to you all and I wish you the best for a successful Conference.

Thank you very much.

President of Korea Univerity Jaeho Yeom
